DEAD NEANDERTHALS - Incantations

Finally! Otto Kokke and René Aquarius made it: a trans-sonic revolution!

"Incantations" is an album with real practical use in everyday life beyond music. And you don't even have to extract the message or read a user manual. No, the benefits are all clearly stated in its four track titles.

DEAD NEANDERTHALS - Incantations (transparent clear vinyl LP) (2025)

In a return to the concept of unlocking maximum efficiency through strict minimalism, all four between nine and twelve minutes long "Incantations" are variations of the same principle:

A filthily oscillating synth Drone between low registry organ, static electric buzz and a bubbling farts prolonged into infinity is accompanied by ultra-repetitive hypnotic drum beats, exclusively played on toms - no fancy cymbal work distracting from the ongoing shamanistic conjurations.

All rituals all serve specific handy purposes. The first an rhythmically simplest is an "Incantation for Turning Men Into Swine". While admittedly many men already do this successfully on their own without any need for outside help, I can see this being of great use on many occasions.
The swine immediately reminded me of the cover of Wrekmeister Harmonies' recent album "Flowers In The Spring", which is a fantastic, also quiet ascetic textural Drone album. In comparison to Dead Neanderthals' conceptual restraint it may sound almost abundantly rich and sparkling, but in the greater picture of 2025 releases both releases actual make a great complementary pair.

But back to the Drone at hand: Side A of the incredibly (borderline invisible) transparent record continues with the extremely convenient "Incantation for Dancing with Flames". This might save lives in emergency situations, so this album should probably be part of every fire brigade's inventory.

I'm not entirely sure, when to use the cosmic powers of the final two incantations, but it for sure gives one a good feeling and confidence boost to have the options of "Riding a Spectral Steed" and "Making the Moon Fall From the Sky". I've seen the latter happen in a trashy TV two-parter once and really hope it looks better in real life. In case Germany's "alternative" full-on fascist party ever rises to governmental power, I will definitely use it. But maybe another listener of one of the 188 copies will beat me to it; however, I'm eager to see especially this one in action.

A great album with extra points for the life hack.
