CAUSA SUI - From The Source

Causa Sui, the flagship of Denmarks Psych fleet El Paraiso Records has set sail again. Destination: Everywhere.

CAUSA SUI - From The Source (Yellow Green with White Splatter vinyl LP) (2024)

Causa Sui is an instrumental quartet with the common instrumentation guitar, bass, keys and drums/percussions. Causa Sui plays smoothly floating Space Rock jams. Causa Sui plays Electric Miles Davis style Jazz Fusion. Causa Sui plays Latin Gábor Szabó guitar Jazz. Causa Sui plays escalating Stoner Rock. Causa Sui plays Sabbathian Doom. Causa Sui plays hypnotic Kraut and Progressive Post Rock.

All this is true through their discography. And all of it is true on "From The Source". It's near to impossible to determine where one influence ends and the other begins, because often several of these things are happening at the same time. It's not even a question worth pondering about anyway. Causa Sui are justing bringing everything together in the natural and timeless fashion that makes them Causa Sui. The way every track moves through musical worlds without ever getting lost suggests that maybe they have never been more Causa Sui than right here and now.

However that doesn't mean they're just compiling their greatest hits of ideas, since they also refine the connection between the components and mix in some new flavours. The result is an album which more than probably ever before can surprise and excite you with its turns at every corner, all while feeling very seamless and relaxed. It's just an extremely enjoyable listening experience.

And even if none of the album's four tracks fall short by any means, the mammoth B-side jam "Visions of a New Horizon" with its seven fantastic movements in twenty-four minutes certainly is an extraordinarily strong statement defining the boundless identity of this great experienced group.

As always the production by Jonas Munk feels like a vividly captured live experience. And of course the artwork by Jakob Skøtt continues the unique Jazz-inspired El Paraiso label aesthetics. The cover by itself isn't really among my personal favorites, but in combination with the "indies only" vinyl variant in wonderfully matching colours it looks pretty awesome as a package.

Causa Sui never dissappoint. And on "From The Source" they are especially bad at it.
