PHOTOGRAPHY 2023: medium format

Wow. Even though I knew it wasn't much, I'm once again shocked how few medium format films I've shot last year! I think I can't even share anything previously unreleasesd this time, because verything has already been presented here or on flickr before.

Well, here's my look back on medium format photography 2023:

I started with Tori (a special edition of the Diana F+ toycam) and a nicely expired colour film in February:

I shot some 6x6 live show pictures at Roadburn Festival on Ilford Delta 3200 with my Adox Golf 1950's folding camera:

I participated at the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day on April 30th with the Holga Wide Pinhole Camera and a seriously old Rewecolor 2000 film (expired 1974), which I had developed as black and white:

I shot a more regular colour film with the Kiev 88 at the same spot:

My next film in that camera was an old Orwo (expired 1991) in Copenhagen:

In June I went out with the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye box camera. The state of this old Orwo film was so bad however that these three frames were the only ones worth scanning:

Yeah, that was it.

Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2023

Hey, on April 30th it Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day again! This year I spent it with my Holga Wide Pinhole Camera and took a couple of 6 x 12 cm photographs.

Three years ago on another occasion I had shot a roll of Rewecolor 2000 film with the same camera. Since the film had already expired in August 1974 and was possibly designed to be developed in an older colour process, which isn't available anymore, I had it developed as black and white instead. The result were some pretty nice blue-toned monochrome pictures.

I still had a second roll from the same stash, so I decided to reprise that aesthetic. On a side-note I got the development for free this time, because the laboratory thought it was a mistake. Not going to complain about that... They did what they were supposed to do, I'm happy with the results - and here's the rest of the film:

PHOTOGRAPHY 2022: medium format

After smartphone and Digital Harinezumi live music pictures, as well as "regular" Harinezumi pictures and film photos on 35 mm and Instamatic film, it's time for my last look back on 2022 with everything medium format!

My 6x6 / 6x9 / 6x12 cm photography has very much been informed by my recent stash of long expired Eastern-German (Orwo) and Ukrainian (Svema) black and white films. The quality of the rolls varies a lot. One roll which I had loaded into my Kodak Brownie Hawkeye failed so hard even for my standards that I didn't even bother scanning it.

From another film I only scanned one frame where I could see at least something... and surprisingly the flickr algorithm decided to make it my currently tenth most popular picture over there.

In March I devoted a blog post to this frame plus a whole roll of equally borderline - but quite cool - results.

Not everything I shot with the Kiev 88 was that abstract:

The only other time I shot medium format in colour was... well, it was almost the same time and location and happened on Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day 2022:

Those weren't my only pinhole pictures of the year though. I had already shot one film with the Holga Wide Pinhole Camera 120 in March:

Another "one roll" cam of 2022 was the Belair x 6-12 Jetsetter. But at least I got the assurance that it still works! The whole film can be seen HERE!

I shot a bunch of films with the good old 1950's Adox Golf folding camera. A couple of those popped up here and there in this blog before, like those I took on my Netherlands trip in October.

Last but not least I tried to revive the good old tradition of medium format live music photography with a new installment of the Roadburn 6x6 series after many years of hiatus. I got some nice results - until unfortunately my shutter cable broke. And of course I didn't bring a spare one.

Well, in not even three months from now I'll get another chance!
