CHAT PILE - Live At Roadburn 2023

Oh yeah. Yeah! Oh Yeah! Of course I have this one. Being a Roadburn Exclusive coloured pressing it was probably one of the most requested pieces of vinyl on the festival's merch table this year:

The live recording of Chat Pile's first official show in Europe (if you don't count the secret show before), which was also the biggest performance in their career thus far.

I must admit I started to search for myself on the cover for a moment, until I realised that I hadn't seen the whole show and so probably wasn't even there when Raygun Busch took the photo of his impressive point of view. Well, I stayed long enough to know that I would masively enjoy this album - and I'm happy to at least now experience this absolute blast in its full glory.

No big intro and dramatic entry, just a guy checking his mic "Hello, hello, hello" and chatting a bit, before the band completely levels the place with their hymn "Why". And just like that you already know how this will go on. And it will get even better!

Let's not even try to beat around the bush:

This live record will become a cult classic. Period. It certainly is special even among the huge catalogue of fantastic "Live at Roadburn" albums. If you've somehow missed the hype and only just heard about Chat Pile - just start here!

You'll love their brutal Hardcore/Sludge/Noise Rock sound, which is so incredible precise and brutal, but somehow also feels sloppy and careless in the best way. And you'll memorize every bit of banter about bikes, books, setlists, Arby's and Robocop between the killer songs. Many bands surely would have cut out some lines, but not Chat Pile. Hell, no!

If you download the digital version of the album these Chat Talks are even their own orderly titled tracks, so you can create a playlist without the distracting music inbetween!

Seriously though: "Live At Roadburn 2023" smashes through and through!

And it looks great, too.

All in all an eleven out of ten on my recommendation scale.
